They used to be hunter green...we think. But behind the shaped trees awkwardly placed not-centered-between-nor-in-front-of the front bedroom windows, there were swipes of a tealish blue color. So we weren't quite sure, but the front door and storm door are hunter green, so we hope the previous home owners at least had the sense enough to match them rather than totally clash the colors!
Regardless of what color they were supposed to be, they were extremely faded. And we didn't like the yellow-and-green pallette. So we asked our HOA for approval to change the color. (Repainting the same color doesn't require HOA approval, but requesting a new color does).
A house across the way has the cutest curb appeal and looks so fresh and crisp-colored...and happened to have shutters the same color as a spare almost-full gallon of paint we had from repainting our dining chairs.

So we took down our shutters, painted them black, and covered them with matte clear outdoor-proof Rustoleum spray paint ....which failed miserably and required brushing on a coat of potent outdoor-proof polycrylic.
We have yet to get the pair hung above the garage, though they are ready to hang now that we finally have the right hangers for the brick facade and just need to touch up some scratches on the shutters from the previously failed attempts at hanging them with normal screws and anchors like the lower pairs took!
Though the yellow siding and white trim still need a good strong power washing, the front looks much crisper and friendlier with some TLC and newly painted shutters, don't you think?
*Note: we will also be painting the door and storm door, but it needs to be done in a single day when we're home all day, and we have yet to schedule such an allowance on our calendars!
